SUV vs. Minivan: Which One is Right for Me?
When it comes to larger Honda vehicles, there are two routes you can take—a more compact SUV, like the Honda CR-V , or a minivan, like the Honda Odyssey. We’ve broken down the differences so you can determine which vehicle is the best option for you and your family.
When it comes to keeping you and your loved ones safe, both a minivan and SUV will do the job. Because they’re larger and higher up, they absorb crashes much better than smaller vehicles and you can see more of the road from the front seat. Both the 2018 Odyssey and the 2018 CR-V come packed with Honda's safety technology, so you don’t have to try and decide which the safer option is.
If the third row is something you don’t use often, then it doesn’t matter whether you choose a minivan or an SUV. But, if you’re in need of easy and frequent access to the third row, opt for a minivan like the Honda Odyssey. Plus, the sliding doors on a minivan make it easier to enter and exit in tight spaces, so this is a great feature if you have small children to strap into car seats. The CR-V is a five-passenger compact SUV, so if you need some room but not an entire extra row of space, it is your best option.
Both of these vehicles are pretty spacious, but the minivan is of course going to have a bit more room. When the seats are folded, the Honda CR-V provides you with 75.8 cubic feet of space and the Odyssey provides 138.5 cubic feet.
